This picture was taken in 1932 and shows the significance of tailored suits for women in this period. The clothing is straying further from the old ideas of pleasing the ideals of men. Coming after a period where flappers wore very different clothing, it is surprising how much clothing changed to better suit the times but it is still similar in the fact that women are wearing what is more comfortable.

Caps like the one in the photo became popular among the working class in the 1930s. As many people fell on hard times during the Great Depression their clothing became less decorated and expensive- the caps often did not cost very much. It is surprising that while people struggled with money they would still strive to keep up with fashion trends.

When the 1940s came along women began to preserve materials and DIY methods developed. The significance of this shows the fear of war people held during these years. On the Homefront people were encouraged to preserve as much as they could during wartime and fashion was no exception during and before WWII.

This ad from 1941 shows the significance of war in American. The depiction of a war pilot and the name "Bombardians" shows the appeal of war and soldiers to the average American man. As war is happening in the European and Pacific Theaters, young boys and people who couldn't fight were interested in being like the men fighting and wanted to be like them, so companies used this to make somebody buy their product.
This 1940s ad shows a woman being told a lipstick would make men want to kiss her. This is surprisingly because of how sexist it is and how different the times were during these years. Even as women were allowed to be in the Army as nurses and worked on the homefront, they were still disrespected and had their lives commonly focused around men.
